Product Overview

The galvanized steel tanks are G-90 grade, 20 gauge metal and made in the USA. Imported foreign steel is not used in the construction. The top is 22 gauge. After the tank is constructed, a paint/epoxy lining is applied to the interior of the tank to provide a protective barrier between the water and the metal itself. This pre-fabricated metal water tank is FDA approved for potable (drinking) water applications and is ANSI / NSF 61 certified. Each tank is tested at the factory to ensure that it is water-tight. These metal water tanks have a typical lifespan of 30-35 years and come with a 1-year warranty.

Rainwater Harvesting Design Considerations

What size tank do I need?

This is one of the very basic questions, and there are two components to the answer.

1. What do you want to use the rainwater for? It can be used for:

Drinking water / indoor potable use

Watering flowerbeds and gardens

Drip irrigation systems

Washing cars and filling swimming pools

Not practical to use rainwater for irrigation, because a typical St. Augustine or Bermuda grass lawn requires 3,000-5,000 gallons of water per week.

2. How much water can you capture?

Use the following formula: 1" of rain on 1000 sq. ft. = 600 gallons of rainwater

In an average year, central Texas receives 30" of rain per year

A 2000 sq. ft. house can therefore capture nearly 35,000 gallons in a year

Rule of thumb: Design a system that can hold 1-2" of rainfall

3. What infrastructure do I need?

Gutters

A crushed granite pad or concrete

A first flush system is highly recommended

A permit is not required and they cannot be banned by an HOA
